The Initiative To Educate Afghan Women is proud to announce that its alumna Adela Raz has been appointed as First Deputy Spokesperson and Director of Communications by President Hamid Karzai of Afghanistan. Ms. Raz, is the first woman to hold this prestigious position.
Ms. Raz, who came to the United States to pursue her undergraduate education through the The Initiative in 2004, graduated with honors from Simmons College in 2008 with a triple major in International Relations, Political Science, and Economics. She went on to complete her Master’s degree in 2010 at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University.
Following her graduation from The Fletcher School, Ms. Raz worked for an international development organization based in Washington, DC. She has comprehensive experience in the field of human rights, governance, and political affairs and has collaborated with the media in providing analysis and assessment about Afghanistan’s current political situation.
Ms. Raz is a member of the IEAW Board of Directors, where she serves as alumnae liaisom charged with developing a strong Alumnae Association empowered to deliver substantive projects in the United States and Afghanistan for the positive development of Afghanistan.
