The Initiative To Educate Afghan Women is proud to announce that Marti Boone of Houston, Texas, has accepted its nomination to its Board of Directors. Ms. Boone has extensive national and international marketing and communications experience garnered from positions in broadcast journalism, economic development, news media and chambers of commerce organizations. Her vast experience encompasses strategic marketing, branding, crisis communications, public relations, internal corporate communications, digital marketing, social media, business development, investor retention, B2B publishing and in-kind leverage programs.
Ms. Boone recently served as Senior Vice President of Energy and Technology at Griffin Communications in Houston, Texas. In her leadership role, she oversaw the day-to-day management of that specialized practice, including strategic counsel, client relations, branding, creative direction and associated business development. Prior to joining Griffin, Marti spent three years as Senior Vice President Economic Development Marketing for the Greater Houston Partnership (GHP) where she was responsible for Opportunity Houston – one of the most successful economic development marketing programs in the United States. Marti worked closely with the Mayor’s office, Governor’s office, and local energy, technology, aerospace and biotech leaders to strategically promote Houston as a business magnet in order to expand and relocate businesses, with the overarching goal of fostering job creation and economic prosperity. Under her direction, the marketing and communications divisions helped the GHP and Houston region reach unprecedented earned media heights with more than $55 million in editorial coverage and over 200 million media impressions from 2008 to 2011. Marti also served as Managing Editor for Opportunity Houston magazine.
Her award-winning campaigns, market launches and support programs have been translated in more than 15 languages and implemented in the U.S., Canada, South America, Europe and Asia. Her team received 2008 and 2009 awards for “Marketer of the Year: Economic Development Marketing” by the American Marketing Association, Houston Chapter.
Ms. Boone is the Chairman of the Petrochemical Committee for the Galveston County Economic Alliance. Additionally, she serves on the Oil & Gas Subcommittee and Renewables & Energy Efficiency Subcommittee at the Greater Houston Partnership.
In addition to her exceptional and proven branding, marketing and public relations achievements, Ms. Boone brings to The Initiative a tireless dedication to conceiving and executing ideas. Ms. Boone recently provided a smashingly successful media training to The Initiative’s program participants at Intersession 2013.
